This project involved a comprehensive waterproofing system for a modern villa's terrace, ensuring the structural integrity of the living space below while preparing the surface for final finishes.
The Challenge
Villa terraces in Lebanon's Chouf region face extreme conditions: intense summer UV, significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, and heavy winter rainfall. The concrete slab naturally expands and contracts, which can crack conventional waterproofing. A flexible, multi-layer system was essential.
The Result
A fully waterproofed terrace with a flexible, crack-bridging membrane that will protect the living space below for years. The system is engineered for the specific climate conditions of the Chouf region and is ready for final tile or stone finishes.
Our Solution
Surface Preparation
Complete cleaning and preparation of the concrete terrace slab, removing loose material and ensuring a sound substrate for waterproofing membrane adhesion.
SikaTop-107 Seal Elastic Application
This cementitious, two-part, polymer-modified slurry is ideal for this environment because it maintains flexibility (bridges cracks) even in the fluctuating temperatures of the Chouf region. Applied in multiple coats for full coverage.
Fiber Mesh Reinforcement
Alkali-resistant fiber mesh was embedded between the first and second coats of Sika 107. The mesh provides tensile strength, ensuring the membrane doesn't tear during the natural expansion and contraction of the concrete slab.
